Concrete Block Calculator

Concrete Block, cement and sand Calculation

Using this calculator you can calculate how many concrete blocks you need for your project. But maybe you are thinking that what formula we are using. how to calculate concrete block, volume and bags of cement, the volume of sand required for a given dimension of the construction project.

Here I am going to show an example of concrete blocks, sand, and cement calculation.

Suppose we have to make a wall of dimension:
Length: 12ft and 6 inch
Height or Depth: 9ft and 6 inch
Wall thickness: 23 Cm
Cement and sand ratio: 1:6
Size of the block is:
Length: 9inch
Width: 4inch
Height: 3inch

Concrete Blocks Calculation

Volume of concrete block: Length(m) X Depth(m) X Wall Thickness(m)

Volume Of Concrete Block = 3.81 X 2.90 X 0.23
Volume of concrete block = 2.54 Cubic Meter
Volume of concrete block = 89.61 Cubic feet

Block size = 9 (inch) X 4 (Inch) X 3 (Inch)
Block size = (9 X 0.0254) X (4 X 0.0254) X (3 X 0.0254)
Block size = 0.2286(m) X 0.1016(m) X 0.0762(m)
Block size = 0.0018 cubic meter

Size of block with mortar = (0.2284 + 0.015) X (0.1016 + 0.015) X (0.0762 + 0.015)
Size of block with mortar = 0.2436(m) X 0.1166(m) X 0.0912(m)
Size of block with mortar = 0.002590(m)

No. of block = (Volume of concrete block) / Volume of one block

No. of block = (2.54 cubic meter) / 0.002590

No. of block = 980 blocks

Actual volume of blocks mortar = no. of block X volume of block without mortar

Actual volume of blocks mortar = 980 X 0.0018
Actual volume of blocks mortal = 1.7336 cubic meter

Quantity of mortar = Volume of block mansonary – actual volume of block mortar

Quantity of mortar = 2.5374 – 1.7336
Quantity of mortar = 0.8038 cubic meter

Now we will add 15% more for wastage, Non – uniform thickness of mortar joins

Quantity of mortar = 0.8038 + (0.8038 X 15/100)
Quantity of mortar = 0.9244 cubic meter

Now we will add 25% more for dry volume

Quantity of mortar = 0.9244 + (0.9244 X 25/100)
Quantity of mortar = 1.1555 cubic meter

Amount of cement calculation:

(Cement/sum of ration) X Quantity of mortar

Cement = (1/7) X 1.1555
Cement = 0.1651 cubic meter

If 1 bag of cement = 0.035 cubic meter
then,
Total no. of cement bags = 0.1651/0.035
Total no. of cement bags = 4.72 bags (We will count it as 5 bags)

If 1 bag of cement = 50 Kg
Then 4.72 bags = 4.72 X 50 = 236 Kg

Amount of sand calculation

(Sand / Sum of Ratio) X Quantity of mortar

Sand = (6/7) X 1.1555

Sand = 0.9904 cubic meter

By considering dry loose bulk density of sand 1550 Kg/cubic meter

Sand = 0.99 X 1550
Sand = 1535.17 Kg

Concrete block calculator: brief details

With its user-friendly interface, the concrete block calculator enables users to experiment with different dimensions and configurations, helping them make informed decisions about the required materials and plan their projects more effectively. It minimizes the chances of over or underestimating the number of concrete blocks, which can have significant cost implications and construction delays.

Whether you’re a professional contractor or a passionate DIYer, a concrete block calculator is an indispensable tool that simplifies the estimation process, improves accuracy, and ultimately contributes to the successful completion of construction projects.

What are concrete blocks?

A concrete block, also known as a concrete masonry unit (CMU), is a rectangular building material made from a mixture of Portland cement, aggregates (such as sand or crushed stone), and water. It is a widely used construction element known for its strength, durability, and versatility.

Concrete blocks are typically larger in size compared to traditional bricks, making them ideal for constructing load-bearing walls, retaining walls, and other structural elements. They come in various sizes, shapes, and textures to accommodate different construction needs and architectural designs.

The manufacturing process of concrete blocks involves pouring the concrete mixture into molds and allowing it to cure and harden. The molds can have different configurations, such as hollow cores or solid blocks, depending on the intended use and structural requirements.

Concrete blocks offer several advantages in construction. They have excellent compressive strength, making them capable of withstanding heavy loads and providing structural stability. They are also resistant to fire, moisture, and pests, making them suitable for both interior and exterior applications.

In addition to their functional properties, concrete blocks can be aesthetically pleasing. They can be textured, colored, or finished with various coatings to enhance their appearance and match the overall design of a building.

Overall, concrete blocks are a widely used building material due to their strength, durability, versatility, and cost-effectiveness. They provide a solid foundation for construction projects and are an essential component in many residential, commercial, and industrial structures.

Benefits of using concrete block calculator

Using a concrete block calculator offers several benefits for construction projects. Here are some key advantages:
