Brick Calculator: How many bricks do I need?

Using this calculator you can calculate how many bricks you need for your project. But maybe you are thinking that what formula we are using to calculate all these things. how to calculate no. of bricks required, volume and bags of cement, and the volume of sand required for a given dimension of the construction project.
Here I am going to show an example of the total no. of bricks, sand, and cement calculation.
Suppose we have to make a wall of dimension:
Length: 15ft and 5 inch
Height or Depth: 15ft and 5 inch
Wall thickness: 23 Cm
Cement and sand ratio: 1:6
Size of the brick is:
Length: 19 Cm
Width: 9 Cm
Height: 9 Cm

Bricks Calculation
Volume of Brick masonry: Length(m) X Depth(m) X Wall Thickness(m)
Volume Of brick masonry = 4.699 X 4.699 X 0.23
Volume of brick masonry = 5.078 Cubic Meter
Brick size = 19 (cm) X 9 (cm) X 9 (cm)
Brick size = (19/100) X (9/100) X (9/100)
Brick size = 0.19(m) X 0.09(m) X 0.09(m)
Brick size = 0.001539 cubic meter
Size of brick with mortar = (0.19 + 0.01) X (0.09 + 0.01) X (0.09 + 0.01)
Size of brick with mortar = 0.20(m) X 0.10(m) X 0.10(m)
Size of brick with mortar = 0.002(m)
No. of bricks = (Volume of brick masonry) / Volume of one brick
No. of bricks = (5.078 cubic meter) / 0.002
No. of bricks = 2540 bricks
Actual volume of bricks mortar = no. of bricks X volume of brick without mortar
Actual volume of bricks mortar = 2540 X 0.001539
Actual volume of bricks mortar = 3.909060 cubic meter
Quantity of mortar = Volume of brick masonry – actual volume of bricks mortar
Quantity of mortar = 5.078 – 3.909060
Quantity of mortar = 1.169 cubic meter
Now we will add 15% more for wastage, Non – uniform thickness of mortar joins
Quantity of mortar = 1.169 + (1.169 X 15/100)
Quantity of mortar = 1.344 cubic meter
Now we will add 25% more for dry volume
Quantity of mortar = 1.344 + (1.344 X 25/100)
Quantity of mortar = 1.680 cubic meter
Amount of cement calculation:
(Cement/sum of ration) X Quantity of mortar
Cement = (1/7) X 1.680
Cement = 0.24 cubic meter
If 1 bag of cement = 0.035 cubic meter
then,
Total no. of cement bags = 0.24/0.035
Total no. of cement bags = 6.857 bags (We will count it as 7 bags)
If 1 bag of cement = 50 Kg
Then 4.72 bags = 6.857 X 50 = 342.86 Kg
Amount of sand calculation
(Sand / Sum of Ratio) X Quantity of mortar
Sand = (6/7) X 1.680
Sand = 1.44 cubic meter
By considering dry loose bulk density of sand 1500 Kg/cubic meter
Sand = 1.44 X 1500
Sand = 2160 Kg

What are bricks and where it’s used?
Bricks are rectangular or square-shaped blocks made from clay, shale, concrete, or other materials. They are one of the oldest and most commonly used building materials in construction. Bricks are known for their durability, strength, and versatility, which makes them suitable for various applications in the construction industry.
Here are some common uses of bricks:
- Wall Construction: Bricks are extensively used for building walls in both residential and commercial construction. They provide structural support, act as load-bearing elements, and offer thermal insulation.
- Foundations: Bricks are often used in the construction of foundations due to their ability to withstand heavy loads and provide stability to the structure.
- Facades: Bricks can be used to create attractive facades, adding aesthetic appeal to buildings. Different patterns, colors, and textures of bricks can be employed to achieve the desired architectural style.
- Pavements and Pathways: Bricks are commonly used to construct pavements, walkways, and driveways. They are durable, provide good traction, and can withstand heavy foot traffic.
- Fireplaces and Chimneys: Bricks have excellent fire-resistant properties, making them a preferred material for constructing fireplaces, chimneys, and other heat-resistant structures.
- Retaining Walls: Bricks are ideal for building retaining walls, which help prevent soil erosion and provide structural support to slopes or raised areas.
- Landscaping: Bricks are used in landscaping projects to create features such as garden walls, raised beds, and decorative structures like pillars or arches.
